Artisans’ hands at work on a mattress
Midsummer Milano × Sustainability

The 15 + 15 mattress regeneration service.

Built so well, fifteen years later it barely needs anything.

The promise

A mattress that comes home.

Most industrial mattresses end up in landfill after eight or ten years. In Europe alone, more than thirty million mattresses become waste each year. A Midsummer mattress is built differently. By hand, in Italy, with wool from small Italian farms, horsehair and noble natural fibres.

Fifteen years on, it returns to our artisans for one of the simplest and quietest services in luxury bedding: a regeneration that, more often than not, removes almost nothing. Not a marketing programme. A method.

Sustainability

Luxury without waste.

A bed that lasts thirty years is not a green claim, it is arithmetic. Everything below is a description of how these beds are made, not a policy.

Natural materials

Baby alpaca, camel hair, Cheviot and Falkland wool, horsehair, vegetable horsehair, yak, mohair, cashmere, silk, linen, organic cotton, Ingeo and Orange Fiber. Fibres that were grown rather than extruded, and that can be carded, washed and laid again.

Handmade production

Each system is built by hand, start to finish, in Italy. No production line and no minimum run. A bed is made when it is ordered, which is why there is nothing to discount and nothing to clear.

Repairability

Every part can be reached. Fibres can be opened, redistributed and replaced; upholstery can be taken off and remade. A system is a set of serviceable parts, not a sealed unit.

15 + 15

At year fifteen the mattress returns to the artisans who made it and its comfort, integrity and life are restored for the fifteen years ahead. The alternative — replacement — is the thing this service exists to avoid.

What we do at year fifteen.

Three things. No more. If we built well the first time, very little is needed the second time.

01

Inspect the core.

Piece by piece. The integrity of the core, its resilience, and the condition of every natural fibre.

02

Recard the wool.

The same wool that has been inside your mattress all along is opened up and recarded by hand. The fibres regain their loft, their breathability and their springiness.

03

Replace the outer plate, only if spoiled.

On our white-cover mattresses only, and only when the plate has been damaged over the years. The Loro Piana Interiors fabric is never replaced.

The 15 + 15 promise

Fifteen years of life. A short visit to Italy. Fifteen years more.

15
Year 0 – 15

The first life. Built by hand in Italy with wool, horsehair and noble fibres. Sewn entirely by our artisans.

+
Year 15

The mattress comes home to our artisans. The core inspected, the wool re-carded, a part renewed only where it needs it.

15
Year 15 – 30

The same mattress goes home for another fifteen years of sleep. Same structure. Same fabric. Same character.

A mattress that does not need to be rebuilt is the most sustainable mattress of all.

Thirty years

One mattress, thirty years.

Most industrial mattresses are replaced every eight to ten years. A Midsummer mattress goes back to the artisans who made it at fifteen, and comes home for fifteen more.

In thirty years, 3 industrial mattresses are thrown away, against none of ours. An illustration from the usual life of an industrial mattress, not a forecast.
What we do not say

No offsets, no certifications we did not earn.

We do not buy carbon credits, and we do not print a badge we cannot explain. What we can account for is the fibre, the hands, the repair and the thirty years. The Top System took the 2025 Green Product Award in Berlin on that basis — plant-based materials, Orange Fiber, and seasonal construction.
