Midsummer-Milano's Regeneration Service

Midsummer Milano natural-fibre mattress, handcrafted in Italy

Midsummer Milano × Sustainability

The 15 + 15 mattress regeneration service.

Built so well, fifteen years later it barely needs anything.

The promise

A mattress that comes home.

Most industrial mattresses end up in landfill after eight or ten years. In Europe alone, more than thirty million mattresses become waste each year. A Midsummer mattress is built differently. By hand, in Italy, with pocket springs, wool from small Italian farms, horsehair and noble natural fibres.

What this means

Fifteen years on, it returns to our artisans.

For one of the simplest and quietest services in luxury bedding: a mattress regeneration that, more often than not, removes almost nothing. This is the philosophy behind Midsummer's lifetime mattress in natural fibres. Not a marketing programme. A method.

What we do at year fifteen.

Three things. No more. Mattress restoration in natural fibres should be a quiet operation — if we built well the first time, very little is needed the second time.

  • 01

    Check the springs.

Pocket by pocket. The integrity of the spring core, the resilience of each individual coil and the condition of the wool felt that protects them.

  • 02

    Recard the wool.

The same wool that has been inside your mattress all along is opened up and recarded by hand. The fibres regain their loft, their breathability and their springiness.

  • 03

Replace the outer plate, only if spoiled.

On our white-cover mattresses only, and only when the plate has been damaged or stained over the years. The Loro Piana Interiors fabric is never replaced.

What stays.

Almost everything. The pocket springs stay. The wool stays — the same wool, recarded. The horsehair stays. The fir-wood frame of the boxspring stays. The hand-sewn seams stay.

The Loro Piana Interiors fabric, on the mattresses where it is used, stays. It is part of the bed's identity, not a part to be replaced. We do not add new fibres. We do not swap in a new fabric. The mattress is regenerated, not rebuilt.

The character of your bed is not made by what we change at year fifteen. It is made by what we built at year zero, and it is still there. That is what we are quietly verifying when the mattress comes home.

The 15 + 15 promise

Fifteen years of life. A short visit to Italy. Fifteen years more.

Our regeneration service does not rebuild the mattress. It verifies that the mattress is still itself, and lets it carry on.

15

Year 0 – 15

The first life. Built by hand in Italy with pocket springs, wool, horsehair and noble fibres. Sewn entirely by our artisans.

+

Year 15

The mattress comes home to our artisans. Springs checked, wool recarded, plate replaced only if spoiled.

15

Year 15 – 30

The same mattress goes home for another fifteen years of sleep. Same structure. Same fabric. Same character.

Why this matters

A lifetime mattress in natural fibres.

Sustainability is not a label. It is a method. A sustainable luxury mattress made in Italy is not measured by the words on a brochure but by what is left after thirty years: a bed still in use, a lighter landfill, a chain of artisans still at work, a family still sleeping on a mattress they have known their whole adult lives.

Because every Midsummer mattress is built without polyurethane foam, without chemical glues and without synthetic flame retardants, it can be opened, examined, recarded and stitched closed again by hand. And when the mattress finally reaches the end of its second life, its natural biodegradable fibres — wool, horsehair, linen, silk, cotton, wood — can quietly return to the earth.
