The Italian Art of Slowing Down — in Wine and in Rest

MIDSUMMER MILANO — AUGUST LETTER
In praise of time, taste, and terroir.
Dear friend,
August in Italy is a ritual: shutters drawn at noon, sandals dusty with sun, and a chilled glass raised at dusk.
Italians have always believed in the pleasure of taking time — and nowhere is that more evident than in our wine. Much like a beautifully crafted bed, a fine Italian wine is a product of place, patience, and tradition.
At Midsummer, we think about wine the way we think about rest: with care for origin, respect for nature, and an eye for balance.
Wines that rest, like we do
Barolo (Piedmont)
Known as “the king of wines,” Barolo ages for years to reach its full depth. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, it’s structured, bold, and surprisingly elegant — a classic of Italian winemaking.
Brunello di Montalcino (Tuscany)
Earthy, full-bodied, and expressive, Brunello is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes and reflects the slow rhythms of Tuscany. Like our beds, it gets better with time.
Etna Rosso (Sicily)
From volcanic soil comes a vibrant, mineral-rich red. Etna Rosso is a testament to nature’s unpredictability — and the beauty that comes from it.
Fiano di Avellino (Campania)
Fresh and floral with hints of hazelnut, this white wine is sophisticated yet understated. It’s summer in a bottle, and a quiet luxury.
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi (Marche)
A white with character — crisp, almondy, and complex. It pairs well with seafood and sea views.
Soave Classico (Veneto)
Light, dry, and mineral, Soave is one of Italy’s most refined whites — proof that simplicity can be a form of elegance.
What wine and rest share
Both ask us to pause. To appreciate process. To recognize that what is slow is not lost — but often more lasting, more beautiful, more true.
Whether it’s aged in barrels or sewn by hand, crafted with grapes or with wool — the best things are those made with intention.
This summer, we raise a glass to the culture of time. And to the Italian way of living — fully, softly, and with style.
Alla salute,
