Ten years ago, Midsummer-Milano was born

Dear friend,
ten years ago, Midsummer-Milano was born.
The name comes from the brightest day of the year — the summer solstice. At the time it was an idea: to bring Italian design into a world dominated by Northern European brands; to build beds the way fine furniture is built; to work only with natural fibres and with fabrics that deserved the same care as the product they were dressing.
What has changed in ten years.
We started with two artisans, they are still the same two. They build every Midsummer system from start to finish, over two or three days. We have not industrialised anything.
We started with horsehair, wool, and cashmere. Today we also work with vicuña, yak, and Orange Fiber. Each material is chosen for what it does, not for what it tells.
We started by dressing our beds in fabrics chosen one at a time. Today we dress Midsummer in Loro Piana Interiors — an arrangement we believe is unique in the world of luxury beds.
We started selling in Milan. Today our beds are in Italy, Russia, Greece, Poland, Canada, and within a few months, in the United States.
What has not changed.
The conviction that sleep is not a problem to be solved but a moment to be honoured. That real luxury is not a price but a decision not to compromise when it would be convenient to do so. That a bed should last at least twenty years, and that if it does not, it was not a bed.
Thank you.
To those who bought a Midsummer in these ten years. To those who visited the showroom out of curiosity. To those who have written about us. To those who follow these newsletters. To those who have introduced us to a friend. To those who, reading these lines, are thinking about the bed they are sleeping on tonight.
Ten years is many, and few, at the same time. What seems right to say today is that we are starting now.
Warm regards,
Chiara Mennini
