Is deep sleep the ultimate luxury?
Share
In recent years we have learned to talk about longevity, performance, biohacking and nutrition. Yet we still underestimate the one thing that most profoundly influences our physical and mental balance: sleep.
Not simply sleeping.
Sleeping deeply.
It is during deep sleep, the N3 phase, that the body truly enters repair mode. Core temperature drops, the nervous system slows down, the brain clears part of the toxins accumulated throughout the day, and the body releases most of its growth hormone, essential for cellular and muscular recovery.
Recent studies also connect sleep quality to cardiovascular health, immune balance and long-term cognitive function.
In other words: the body wears out during the day.
It restores itself at night.
The hidden role of materials
There is however one aspect that is still rarely discussed: the body needs very precise physical conditions to enter deep sleep. Temperature is one of the most important.
To truly fall asleep, the body needs to release heat. It is a natural physiological process. And this is where materials make a remarkable difference.
Synthetic fibres tend to trap heat and moisture. Natural fibres behave differently: they breathe, absorb humidity, release excess heat and adapt naturally to seasonal changes.
Wool, linen, silk and horsehair are not considered luxurious simply because of tradition or touch. They possess specific physical properties that influence the bed’s microclimate, and therefore the quality of sleep itself.
This is why at Midsummer we work exclusively with natural materials and highly breathable internal structures. It is not a nostalgic choice. It is a functional one.
Sleep better, live better
Today we spend enormous amounts of time searching for ways to improve wellbeing: supplements, protocols, technologies. Yet often the best investment remains the simplest one: creating the right conditions for truly restorative sleep.
Perhaps true contemporary luxury is not about adding more.
It is about removing everything that interferes with rest.
