Yak Wool: A Precious Natural Fiber from the Asian Mountains

The yak is a sacred animal that thrives in the Asian mountains, specifically on the Tibetan plateau, the Pamir region, and the slopes of the Himalayas, at altitudes reaching up to 6,000 meters. Known for its strength and resilience, the yak lives in close contact with local populations who rely on it for milk and wool. The animal is revered and leads a peaceful life, with its wool only harvested once the yak has naturally shed its undercoat.

Sustainably Sourced Yak Wool

The yak’s thick fur, which varies in shades from dark brown to black, provides it with insulation against the harsh, cold winters. As the temperature drops, a soft, thick undercoat forms to protect the yak from the extreme cold. This luxurious undercoat begins to shed naturally as the warmer days of May arrive.

During this period, local nomadic communities carefully collect the yak wool, which is naturally shed by the animals. The yak is neither sheared nor combed—its wool is gathered in a sustainable manner, ensuring the animal’s well-being and preserving the environment. This method results in an ethically sourced, soft, and durable fiber that is perfect for crafting luxury bedding and textiles.
