Our search for excellence does not stop. We have now introduced the option to use yak hair for our mattresses. Soft, organic, comfortable and warm, it is a luxury for the few.
The yak lives in the Asian mountains and can be found on the Tibetan plateau, in the Pamir region and on the slopes of the Himalayas, up to 6,000 meters above sea level.
Used by local populations for milk and wool, it is well cared for and lives in close contact with them. It is a sacred animal, untouchable and leads a peaceful life until it dies from old age. It has a thick fur with long hairs with shades of color between dark brown and black. During the extremely cold winters the fur is enriched with a thick undercoat that defends the yak from the low temperatures.
Starting in May, when the days get finally warmer the undercoat hair falls from the animals and is dispersed in the environment. It is during this season that the nomads gather the soft fiber. The yak is neither sheared nor combed and its wool is collected only once it is naturally shed.
It is a fine, very warm and particularly robust noble hair. It is also very soft and fluffy, with a cashmere-like appearance, which offers a unique experience of softness, warmth and comfort to our mattresses.
